Italian Music
Since the times of the Roman Empire, Italy has continued to be one of the most prominent musical cultural centers in all of Europe.
Italy has been the home of the Renaissance of Italy and also been home to a great number of the some of the most influential composers of the later centuries.
The Italian music also incorporates a large range of regional styles of folk music and it is also sports a well burgeoning record industry. This healthily growing record industry provides a strong support system to a wide variety of musicians from the genres of rock, pop, hip hop and opera.
It was in the 1950s that some of the prominent artists of the Iranian music such as American Alan Lomax and Italians Diego Carpitella, Franco Coggiola and Roberto Leydi recorded a large number of regional traditions in folk music.
Carpitella later also worked with Ernesto de Martino to conduct an in-depth study of the magical aspects of Italian music, especially the tarantolati. One of the most famous institutes for music called "The Instituto de Martino", which was named after Ernesto de Martino, was founded in the early 1960s.
This institute was built in order to document the Italian culture. This institute further led to the founding of the "Nuova Canzionere Italiano". This was an organization that promoted some of the most famous Italian musicians like Giovanni Marini.
Sicily is a beautiful Italian town which has been home to a large variety of Christian music. Christian music is a genre of music that includes a cappella, which is basically a set of devotional songs from Montedoro. It also features a large number of brass bands such as Banda Ionica who play songs from a diverse repertoire.
Sicily is also home to the most vibrant jazz music in Italy. This music is based out of Palermo. It includes Enzo Rao and his group Shamal. This group has created an interesting mix by adding the native Sicilian and Arab influences to American jazz.
Sicily plays host to Franco Battiato. He is one of the most popular musician and composer of all times. He was the one who fused rock and roll with traditional and classical influences. This effort of his found its initiation way back in 1979 with his debut and polular landmark album L'era del cinghiale bianco.
